Decatur

Take a stroll through Decatur and see how friendly neighbors, beautiful homes, tree-lined streets, great schools, parks and playing fields, libraries, colleges, restaurants and businesses all make Decatur a wonderful place to live, or just to spend some time! Although Decatur is part of the Atlanta metro area, it is a city unto itself, with an identity all its own. Decatur City Schools, a charter school system that serves City of Decatur, is ranked in the top five school districts in the state of Georgia year after year.

At 19,000 residents, Decatur has become a favorite of single professionals, young couples and families. Just minutes east of downtown Atlanta, minutes west of Stone Mountain, and with the MARTA rail station right under the downtown square, Decatur’s location is ideal for getting to downtown Atlanta for work or play, to the airport for travel, or to sporting events.

Named after Stephen Decatur, a 19th century U.S. Naval hero, Decatur retains a strong connection to its history, while preparing for the future with managed growth and responsible development.

Although the City of Decatur is only four square miles with its own school system and government, greater Decatur encompasses a larger area in DeKalb County and offers more affordability while still providing convenience and proximity. Some of the neighborhoods in “greater Decatur” include Forrest Hills, Medlock Park, Midway Woods, Lindmoor Woods, Oak Grove, and Sagamore Hills.
